| Target 1000 hit the mark at London Boat Show |
This year's London Boat Show saw Target 1,000 reach its objective of recruiting 1000 new Offshore members,
the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's membership for all those who use the sea. Designed to encourage regular
sea-users and boat owners to join Offshore, Target 1,000 is a fantastic competition where each new member is
entered into a prize draw to win one of £10,000 worth of prizes, generously donated by the competition sponsor, Avon
Inflatables and other marine companies.
As an added bonus the 1,000 new members will be entered into a major prize draw for an Avon Rollaway Inflatable Boat
worth around £1,850, which will be drawn on 31 March 2001. The winner will be presented with their prize at the RIBEX
show in May.
Sharon New, Offshore supporter recruitment officer commented, "I am absolutely delighted with the response to our latest
recruitment initiative, Target 1,000. Of the 759 new members who signed up for membership of the RNLI at the
London Boat Show, 680 were Offshore or joint Offshore members. That means that 90% of new memberships signed up at the show
were sea users and are now supporting the charity which primarily supports them. As our research suggested, given the
right opportunity, sea users are only too happy to support RNLI in a regular and commited way. 1,000 new Offshore members
is worth a potential annual income to the RNLI of £50,000".
Target 1,000 was launched at the Southampton Boat Show 2000 and later ran at Dive 2000 in October, before culminating
at the London Boat Show in January 2001.
