The Royal Yachting Association is pleased to announce the appointment Rod Carr as its new Secretary General. He will take up the post on 1st December 2000. Rod is currently the RYA Racing Manager and has an impressive record that includes several Olympic yachting campaigns as both Coach and Manager. Widely recognised for his successful leadership, he will represent the UK as the Deputy Chef de Mission to the Team in Sydney this year. Rod has also been extremely successful in attracting new funding from the Sports Lottery Fund World Class Initiative. Before joining the RYA staff 18 years ago, Rod was Chief Instructor at the National Sailing Centre in Cowes where he worked as a Dinghy and Cruising Instructor. His own sailing is family cruising in his 34 ft. catamaran. Ken Ellis, RYA Chairman commented "We are very fortunate to have a person of Rod's calibre to tackle this important role. The Association needs strong leadership to ensure continuity to meet the expectation of those who put trust in us. I am personally looking forward to working with Rod". Recognising the future needs of the organisation and looking forward to
the many challenges faced in his new job, Rod commented "I think it is
important that the RYA is represented effectively at all important forums and I
believe I have a good grasp of the issues. We have a great team of both
professionals and volunteers and it is a privilege to be asked to lead them."
